SHE NEVER SAID THAT SHE COULD FLY

She never said that she could fly.
She only said you’d touch the sky.
She never said that she could sing.
She only said you’d hear bells ring.

She never said that she could dance.
She only said you’d be entranced.
She never said she was the best.
She only said she’d take your test.

She never said she knew your heart.
She only said she’d take your part.
She never said there’d be no cold.
She only said she’s yours to hold.

She never said there’d be no fears.
She only said she’d dry your tears.
She never said , its smooth, this road.
She only said she’d share your load.

Now what she said and what she does,
No longer seem to earn your love.
So many things that might have been,
Appear in sight but fade again.

The roads she chose were often wrong.
Her path grew steep, the drop was long.
Out on the edge up there so high.
I bet she wishes he could fly.
