Darlin

Let’s drop the pretense,
The beat is all gone.
The rhyme and the rhythm
Seem like two different songs.

No longer in sync,
Our tempos have changed.
What used to be hip,
Is a sad old refrain.

Like a tangled up two step
With both partners wrong,
I think it’s too late
To just tango on.

but of all my favorites
From classics to blues,
I have to admit—
There’s been no tune like you.
