SEPARATE WAYS
A farm dog and a wolf,
Were walking down a lane.
The wolf was lean and wild,
The farm dog fat and tame.
“Tell me wolf,” the farm dog asked,
“How do you spend your days?
What do you do for food,
At night where do you stay?”
Wolf said, “I hunt for food.
Sometimes I do not eat.
A den inside a hill,
Is where I usually sleep.”
I search for food all night,
And try to sleep all day.
My enemies are many,
On guard I have to stay.”
And then the wolf inquired,
“Are your days just like mine?
Do you sleep in a den,
And eat what you can find?”
“No,” the farm dog answered,
“It’s not like that at all.
I never have to hunt,
And sleep on fresh clean straw.
Nothing tries to harm me,
The farmer treats me well.
I hang around the yard,
Then hear the dinner bell.
Why not come home with me?
You’d never have to work.
We’d lay around all day,
And share in all the perks.”
Then the wolf inquired,
“Of us what does he ask?
For his generosity,
He must require a task.”
Dog said, “it’s so easy,
Just wear a collar everyday.”
Hearing that the wolf turned round,
And ran the other way.
