UNCLE

You always were my hero
When I was just a pup.
A real Wyoming cowboy,
As I was growing up.

I’d often sit and listen
To stories and to songs.
“Here’s one my Uncle told to me,”
I’d say and pass it on.

Now I am a grown man,
Though not as wise as you.
And you are still my hero,
From every point of view.

I never can repay your gifts,
Some old and some brand new.
And when I’m at my very best,
It’s all because of you.
