Change Of Life

Morning’s first sunshine too soon became noon,
Afternoon’s shadows gave way to the moon.
You busied yourself, as best as you could,
And promised yourself it was all for the good.

But yesterday’s mirror seemed somehow more kind.
Today’s lines are clearer and easy to find.
The day you turned thirty you stayed twenty-nine.
But now you’ve turned fifty in such a short time.

Spring is long gone, and summer’s not near,
With winter so close you can feel it from here.
The print on the page and the future not clear.
Things out of fashion that you still hold dear.

Where has it gone and what will remain?
Where are the victories and where is the gain?
Life is a circle that has but two sides—
Just inside and outside with no place to hide.
